About the Role

Padder is seeking a Staff Engineer (Engineer #1) to help build and run a world-class SaaS platform for independent landlords. Padder empowers landlords to manage and grow their portfolios by saving time and money.

The Staff Engineer collaborates closely with the co-founders to develop the essential systems and infrastructure of the company. They play a pivotal role at Padder, interacting with landlords and tenants to address concerns, gather feedback, and enhance customer satisfaction. As the Staff Engineer (Employee #1), you will establish the groundwork for expanding our startup while persistently seeking inventive approaches to alleviate the major challenges in the rental real estate industry. A big part of your role will be to architect and maintain scalable systems, automate all system pipelines, develop our product and ensure 4 9s uptime for our clients.

Requirements

Must haves to be successful in the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field of specialization preferred.

  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a staff engineer in a similar environment.

  • Proficiency in engineering and project management software.

  • Extensive knowledge of engineering processes, structural design, and system optimization.

  • Great organizational and time management skills.

  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Ideally, you have experience within the startup, technology, or real estate space

You’ll be doing things like:

  • Implement integrations requested by customers

  • Deploy updates and fixes as necessary and during Sprint Cycles

  • Provide Level 2 technical support as needed to assist Customer Success

  • Build tools to reduce occurrences of errors and improve customer experience

  • Develop software to integrate with internal back-end systems, including but not limited to API integration, Full-Stack Development and bug fixes

  • Perform root cause analysis for production errors

  • Investigate and resolve technical issues

  • Develop scripts to automate visualization

  • Design procedures for system troubleshooting and maintenance

  • Collaborating with the engineering team on prototype development.

  • Utilizing software to perform efficient planning, designing, and development.

  • Projecting the costs and timeframes of projects, creating work schedules and setting deadlines.

  • Performing quality control and resolving structural design and other issues throughout the implementation stages.

  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and security regulations.

Location

We are looking for someone based in Toronto, where we are headquartered. We're remote-first so that you can work from anywhere, with regular team huddles at our co-working space. Slack, Notion, Google Drive, Google Meet, and email are our primary tools for collaboration.

Compensation

Salary: $80k-$125k
